Expert Fishing Tackle Reviews & Advice
A multiplier reel for beginners is a forgiving, adjustable-brake “multi” that a first-timer can learn on without constant tangles. It sits on top of the rod, winds line in quickly thanks to its gearing, and handles heavy leads better than most fixed spools. Its brakes tame the spool so your first casts don’t end in … Read more
Beach fishing reels are large, saltwater-resistant reels built to launch heavy leads from the shoreline and drag fish back through surf, sand and snags. In the UK most are fixed spool models with long-cast spools, generous capacity and a drag system tough enough for conger, huss and big bass. Here’s the catch: the market is … Read more
There’s a particular kind of stubbornness that lives in every beach angler, and it usually surfaces the moment someone asks “fixed spool or multiplier?” Ask ten anglers on a Norfolk shingle bank and you’ll get eleven opinions, most of them delivered with the quiet certainty of a man who has never once considered being wrong. … Read more
A beachcaster rod for cod fishing is a long, powerful sea rod — typically 12 to 14ft, casting 4-8oz of lead and bait — designed to punch a bait past the breakers and hold bottom in a moving tide while you wait for that unmistakable, slow-motion nod of a feeding cod. Get the wrong one … Read more
Anyone who’s ever hooked into a decent conger over a kelp-strewn reef knows the truth in about four seconds flat: this is not a job for a delicate rod.
